What is hair tissue mineral analysis?
HTMA is a screening test performed on a small sample of hair cut from close to the scalp. The sample is sent to a laboratory, which measures the levels of a range of minerals and trace elements deposited in the hair during its growth.
Because hair grows slowly, the sample reflects a period of weeks to months rather than a single moment, which is different from a blood test taken on a given morning.
The result is a report of mineral and trace element levels and their ratios. What makes that report useful is the conversation about it, which is the point of the discovery call.
What HTMA is, and what it is not
HTMA is:
- A screening and information-gathering tool
- A measure of mineral and trace element content in a hair sample
- A starting point for a conversation about nutrition and lifestyle
HTMA is not:
- A diagnostic test
- A replacement for blood work ordered by your physician
- A substitute for medical care
