Aromatherapy Massage in Fort McMurray

Aromatherapy is the use of plant oils, known as essential oils, for the treatment or prevention of disease. It is a complementary therapy designed to treat the whole person rather than a single symptom, by supporting the body's natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself. Aromatherapy is free of charge with any massage at Higher Health Acupuncture & Massage Therapy Clinic in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Session length - Added to any massage treatment

Add-on price - Free of charge

Method - Absorbed through the skin and inhaled during treatment

Best for - Stress, sleep, mood, muscle and joint pain

Note - Our clinic is scent-free for clients and staff, so oils are used with care

Insurance - Registered therapist receipt provided for direct billing

What is aromatherapy?

Essential oils consist of tiny aromatic molecules that are readily absorbed through the skin, and that enter the lungs as you breathe. From there these therapeutic constituents enter the bloodstream and are carried around the body, where they deliver their effects.

Because essential oils are highly concentrated, only a small quantity is required to produce a result. That concentration is also why they should be used by someone trained in them rather than applied liberally at home.

What does aromatherapy help with?

  • Chronic stress or anxiety
  • Low mood
  • Insomnia and trouble sleeping

  • Joint pain

What to expect in your session

  1. Tell your therapist at the start of the session that you want aromatherapy included.
  2. They select oils based on what you want the session to address.
  3. The oils are used through the massage, absorbed through the skin and inhaled as you breathe.
  4. The rest of the session runs as your chosen massage type.

Aromatherapy is included free of charge at our clinic. If you want a custom three-oil therapeutic blend worked into a full massage, that is Essential Oil Massage, which is a $15 add-on.

Who should not book aromatherapy

Tell your therapist before your session if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have asthma or a respiratory condition, have epilepsy, have high blood pressure, have sensitive skin or a known allergy to a plant or oil, or are booking for a child. Several oils are contraindicated in those situations. Because our clinic is scent-free, let us know if you would prefer no oils at all.

Frequently asked questions

How much does aromatherapy cost at Higher Health?

Nothing. All aromatherapy used during your massage is free of charge. It was previously listed at $10.

What is the difference between aromatherapy and essential oil massage?

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils during your treatment, included at no cost. Essential Oil Massage is a full treatment built around a custom blend of three pure oils in a carrier oil, priced at $15 plus GST.

Can I choose the oils?

Tell your therapist what you want the session to do. They will select and blend accordingly, and will avoid anything you react to.

Is aromatherapy safe during pregnancy?

Some oils are avoided during pregnancy. Tell your therapist you are pregnant and they will select accordingly, or leave oils out entirely.

Your clinic is scent-free. How does that work with aromatherapy?

Our scent-free policy asks clients not to arrive wearing cologne or perfume, which protects people with sensitivities in shared spaces. Therapeutic oils are used in the treatment room in small quantities and with your consent.

Can aromatherapy help me sleep?

Insomnia and trouble sleeping are among the concerns aromatherapy is used for, usually alongside a relaxation-focused massage.
