What is Reiki?

Reiki is based on the idea that an unseen life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. When that energy is low, we are more likely to get sick or feel stress. When it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

A treatment feels like a glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person, including body, emotions, mind and spirit.

It is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use, and it complements medical treatment and other therapies rather than replacing them.

What does Reiki help with?

  • Promotes harmony and balance
  • Creates deep relaxation and helps the body release stress and tension
  • Dissolves energy blocks and promotes natural balance between mind, body and spirit
  • Helps with emotional wounds, mood swings, fear, frustration and anger
  • Assists the body in cleansing itself and supports the immune system
  • Clears the mind and improves focus, leaving you grounded and centred
  • Aids better sleep
  • Accelerates the body's self-healing ability
  • Helps relieve pain and supports physical healing
  • Helps with symptoms of asthma, chronic fatigue, menopausal symptoms and insomnia
  • Supports spiritual growth and emotional cleansing
  • Complements medical treatment and other therapies

What to expect in your session

  1. You stay fully clothed and lie on the table.
  2. Your practitioner rests their hands lightly on, or just above, a series of positions.
  3. Each position is held for a few minutes.
  4. Many people feel warmth, tingling or a sense of settling. Many fall asleep.
  5. There is no manipulation of muscle or joints at any point.

Reiki can also be administered by your massage therapist as part of a treatment. Ask when you book.

Who should be aware before booking Reiki

Reiki is non-invasive and has no physical contraindications, but it is a complementary therapy and not a medical treatment. It should never replace care from your physician, and we will not tell you otherwise. If you are being treated for a medical or mental health condition, keep your care team informed and continue your prescribed treatment. If you would prefer no physical contact at all, say so and your practitioner will work with hands held above the body throughout.

Frequently asked questions

Do I stay dressed during Reiki?

Yes. Reiki is received fully clothed.

Does the practitioner touch me?

Light contact at a series of positions is typical, but Reiki can be given entirely with the hands held just above the body. Tell your practitioner your preference before you begin.

As a standalone treatment, no. If Reiki is incorporated into a regular massage therapy treatment, yes.

Can Reiki be added to a massage?

What does Reiki feel like?

Most people describe warmth, a glowing sensation, tingling, or simply deep calm. Some feel very little during the session and notice the effect afterward. Both are normal.
